GPS Mapping Guide

Posted on January 30th, 2008 in General by March

MAPA is a community project being carried out the common good of Africa’s people and wildlife. We are doing a lot of dedicated mapping ourselves to get to the trickiest parts of Africa but we need your help too.

If you have ever used a GPS in or around a wildlife reserve in Africa, please let us have your waypoints and track data. If you are intending to go on a trip with a GPS, please take the time to find out how to get really good GPS data that you can feed back into this project. Your data will end up on Google Earth for the whole world to see if you record your travels in a consistent way.

We have almost a thousand protected areas still to go – we need everyone’s tracks and waypoints!

For a guide on how to record really reliable road and landmark data on a GPS please download the Tracks4Africa guide here Tracks4Africa’s Overland Navigation sheet
